VegClear is proud to provide skilled vegetation management services and to partner directly and indirectly with contractors serving the Georgia DOT & The State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA). With our innovative weed control and vegetation management solutions, we help DOT & SRTA maintenance crews & industry contractors promote and maintain positive ROI on roadside spend. This helps ensure efficient vegetation maintenance on Georgia’s Road System. State agency clients are the backbone of infrastructure relied on by thousands of Drivers and Peach Pass subscribers, the state’s all-electronic tolling technology along interstates and state roads. We also provide services for local and state roads under the care of SRTA with inspections, bare ground application services and vegetation risk reduction assessments. These ancillary services help to ensure the long-term success of the Departments' mission. With VegClear, Georgia’s roadsides and rights of way are in good hands.
VegClear has experience and credentials to handle the most complex roadside vegetation control programs.
Many roadside projects require a truck, others specify hand spraying only. We have you covered either way.
Managing the vegetation along roadsides and their respective rights-of-way (ROW) can be a complex and challenging task, as it varies greatly depending on location, length, and treatable areas. To ensure the safe operation and longevity of road shoulders and pavement, an integrated vegetation management (IVM) approach is often used. This combines various practices to achieve the desired long-term result.
IVM includes all aspects of roadside vegetation management, such as mechanical and biological control measures, as well as the use of herbicides or chemical control measures. However, it is important to have a thorough understanding of weed ecology principles and practices when using chemical control measures. IVM also addresses social and environmental concerns, including traffic safety, water quality, rare and endangered species, wetland protection, native plantings, natural area preserves, and invasive weed management.
Management techniques used in IVM programs may include manual, mechanical, chemical, cultural, and biological methodologies. The goal is to use techniques that will cause the least disturbance to the natural and human communities.
In addition to basic weed control efforts, ROW managers often face the added challenge of managing noxious or invasive weeds. To address this, federal and state laws commonly require ROW managers to take steps to prevent the spread of invasive or noxious plants, detect and respond rapidly to them, and control their populations.
In the Southeast US, invasive species along roadsides include kudzu, Japanese knotweed, broomsedge, hogweed, and others, each of which presents unique challenges related to management and control. If possible, the ideal approach is the proper selection and utilization of plant species for establishment along or near ROWs in an effort to limit weed infestation. This is an important aspect of IVM. VegClear addresses these issues and is often able to provide guidance for ROW managers in the Southeast US, and surrounding states including in Georgia, as well as the Midwest US.
For invasive vines, VegClear sprays foliage that is within four feet of the ground. It can be nonselective or selective herbicide mix. Various products utilized are labeled for total vegetation control and/or selective control for specific vines. The selection is depending on the environmental factors at play. Regardless of the agency's selection, all herbicides are sprayed at labeled rates and treatment recommendations. No foliar spray is applied above four feet high in most cases. Four to five feet is the standard maximum height that can be treated with hand held or backpack spray equipment. Any vines that extend above this height are typically cut and treated as woody plants. If they are not or cannot be mechanically cut, their treatment requires use of purpose built boom and truck mounted sprayer solutions. Invasive grasses and weeds are sprayed during the growing season with herbicide that is labeled to control the specific grass or weed, and approved by the EPA - as in call cases. And our team applies weed control in accordance with labeled rates and treatment recommendations.
